Valdotain tresse

The Valdotain tresse is a friction hitch used to ascend and descend on rope. It is used by many climbers and arborists. It is very responsive high performance hitch but the length of the cord must be just right for the hitch to work consistently and reliably. Valdotain tresse is best used together with a micro pulley.
When tied with a loop of rope (double rope) this knot is called a Machard tresse.

Used as a friction hitch in climbing and rigging.

Valdotain tresse is length-critical. You may have to experiment with different lengths, diameters, number of top coils and types of rope to find the combination that works best.
