The Distel Hitch is friction knot popular with arborists used to ascend a climbing rope.
It can be used on main climbing rope for ascending. Distel hitch requires line with loops on each end.
The loops can be made using double fisherman’s knot. The line should be of smaller diameter than the main rope.
The Distel will only grip in one direction which makes it
suitable for climbing.
The knot should be aligned so that the two ends are the same length. As with all critical application knots
make sure that the hitch is tied correctly before using it.
1. Make four wraps around the main rope.
2. Bring wrapping tail down and make an additional wrap at bottom of other wraps in same direction
and tuck the tail under itself in the front of the knot.
3. Clip the ends together with a carabiner in front of the rope.
